This database of the addresses of California gasoline stations is intended for use with gasbuddy.com Web sites covering California. Gasbuddy.com is a family of Web sites allowing consumers to inform other consumers of current gasoline prices at individual gasoline stations in their metropolitan areas. Post the complete location! If you're posting gas prices to a gasbuddy.com site, you're already helping to make the retail gasoline market work better. Why not be the most helpful you can be? Before you post, try to determine both the cross street and the street address of the station. Your price information is more useful to others if it includes both the street address and the cross street. How to do that? See the Resources sidebar. You can search this site's database of gasoline station street addresses. More and more of those addresses will include cross streets. You can also obtain addresses from gasoline retailers' Web sites. A mediocre gasbuddy.com entryThe (make-believe) gasbuddy.com entry illustrated here is not very helpful. If I would like to buy gas at this station, I'd wonder just where on Highway 20 it might be. If I see the current gas price at an Econo Gas station at 1200 Hwy 20, at the intersection with Acorn Road, and I would like to post it to my gasbuddy.com site, I'd wonder if this is the same station. Shall I update this entry with my fresh price, or create an entirely new entry? An excellent gasbuddy.com entryTo me, the ideal gasbuddy.com street address entry looks like the one illustrated here. It contains both the street address and the cross street. Neither a gasoline buyer nor a gasbuddy participant with a fresh price observation would have any trouble identifying this station "on the ground." A gasoline buyer could even use a Web-based mapping service to get a map or turn-by-turn driving directions for this location. (Try it, then use your Web browser's Back button to come back.) Help improve the databaseIf you know the cross street and it is not in this database, or if you discover an error in a database listing or a station that is not in this database at all, please send that information in! It will be used to correct the database. (See the Resources sidebar.) Database informationThe California Energy Commission makes a database of California Retail Service (Gas) Stations, Fleet Fueling Facilities and Private Storage Tank Sites available on its Web site. The initial information in the gbcal database was obtained there. Would you like a copy of the current gbcal database, as it has been modified and updated for use on this Web site? You're welcome to it, and it is in the public domain (no copyright issues). It is a comma-separated values (CSV) text file of about 676K in size, and will open in any spreadsheet application. [ Download ] I suggest that you right-mouse-click the Download link (Mac users: click and hold) and tell your browser to save the file to your hard drive. |
