Bicycling - Bike Trails in Big Sur
Highway 1 is open to bicycles and is often used by northbound and southbound touring bicyclists.
Trails for mountain bicycles can be found at the following locations in the Big Sur region:
- Garrapata State Park
- Bixby Creek Bridge / Coast Road (north end)
- Andrew Molera State Park / Coast Road (south end)
Many National Forest trails outside wilderness areas are open to mountain bicycles. Bicycles are prohibited within wilderness area boundaries. The Monterey Ranger District of Los Padres National Forest, in which the Big Sur region's National Forest lands lie, publishes a table of "Hike, Bike & Horse Trails". Unfortunately, the table does not state whether each trail lies partly or entirely in wilderness.
