It's Not Here
Sometimes people look for things in Big Sur that, well, just aren't there. This page is here in an attempt to help those people find what they're looking for.
- Big Sur National Park: People looking for this are probably thinking of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. There are no national parks in the Big Sur region.
- Big Sur National Forest: People looking for this might be thinking of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, or they might be thinking of Los Padres National Forest, which covers a large portion of Big Sur's land area. The staff at Big Sur Station can provide information about either.
- Pfeiffer State Beach: People looking for this may be thinking of Pfeiffer Beach, which is not a state beach; it is on federal government land and operated by the U.S. Forest Service. Or they may be thinking of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, which has a kind of beach along Big Sur River. Or they may be thinking of Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, which has a beach at McWay Fall, but that beach is off-limits to visitors.
- 17-Mile Drive: Beautiful 17-Mile Drive is not in the Big Sur Region at all, but just to the north, in Pebble Beach, California, on the Monterey Peninsula.
