A Guide to California's Big Sur

Along the Highway

Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park

Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park features several trails, including a very short one to a beautiful sight: McWay Fall, which drops down a cliff onto the sandy beach. The trail contours above the beach, permitting views from many angles, but access to the beach is not permitted. There is also a trail down to Partington Cove from a highway shoulder 1.9 miles (3km) north of this main park entrance. For more detailed information, see the resources listed on the Books and Maps page.

Camping in this park consists of two "environmental" tent campsites with walk-in access only.

There is a second state park nearby with "Pfeiffer" in its name: Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park.
